The Search API Key is essential to integrate the Google Search widget into your website. This guide will walk you through the steps to create an API Key and restrict it for secure usage.
Create the API Key
- Enter the Programmable Search Engine page.
- Click on the Get a Key button.
Create a New Project or select an existing code
A popup window will appear asking you to enter a new project name and then click Next to continue.
If you don’t have an existing project, click Create Project:
- Enter a Project Name
- Click Next to proceed.
Click the SHOW KEY button to view your API key
Now, click the Copy icon to copy the API key.
You can enter the API Console to add restrictions to your API key usage, or click Done to close the window.

The Google Custom Search JSON API allows up to 100 search queries per day at no cost. For more information, click here. If you require additional queries, you can enable billing in the API Console. Extra queries are priced at $5 per 1,000 requests, with a daily limit of 10,000 queries.
