Setting up your AI Chatbot for the first time is a simple process that helps you create a smart assistant capable of answering user questions based on your website's content and other knowledge sources. This guide will walk you through the steps to configure your chatbot and build its knowledge base.

 

How the AI Chatbot Setup Works

When you create your chatbot, you’ll be prompted to set up the AI by providing a URL to a webpage - for example, your website’s homepage. The AI will scan this URL and generate instructions for the chatbot. These instructions define the chatbot’s role and purpose based on the information extracted from the provided page. Key Features of the AI Setup:

  • You can edit the instructions manually at any time.
  • You can rescan a URL to update the chatbot’s knowledge.
  • You can add multiple sources to improve accuracy.

 

Step 1: Creating Your AI Chatbot

1. Enter a Website URL

  1. When prompted, enter your website URL (e.g., your homepage).
  2. Click “Create” to let the AI scan the URL and generate chatbot instructions.

2. Save Your Widget

Before continuing, you must save the chatbot within a project.

  1. Select a project from the dropdown menu.
  2. Click “Save Changes” to proceed.

Step 2: Adding the Website to the Knowledge Base

After saving, you’ll be directed to the Knowledge Base section. Here, you’ll have the option to use the website URL you entered earlier as a knowledge source.

1. Select the Website Scan Type

  1. Choose how much of your website the AI should scan (learn more about Scan Types):
    • Single Page – Only scans the provided URL.
    • Nested Pages – Scans the page and all linked pages.
    • Full Website – Scans all pages of the domain.
  2. Click “Scan” to begin.

2. Select Pages to Include

The AI will display a list of pages found on your website. You can:
✅ Keep all selected to include everything.
❌ Deselect specific pages you don’t want in the knowledge base.

Once finalized, click “Scan Pages” to add the selected content.

Step 3: AI Scanning Process

The AI will now scan your website to extract knowledge. This process may take some time, depending on the number of pages being analyzed.

  • You will see a progress indicator showing the scan status.
  • An orange triangle icon will appear, indicating that the AI is still processing pages.
  • Once complete, your chatbot will have access to the scanned knowledge and be ready to answer questions.

Step 4: Adding More Knowledge Sources

To improve your chatbot’s accuracy, you can add additional knowledge sources beyond just website content.

How to Add More Sources:

  1. Click “Add Source” in the Knowledge Base section.
  2. Choose from the available source types:
    • FAQ Entries – Add predefined questions and answers.
    • Uploaded Files – Scan PDFs or text documents.
    • Text Blocks – Manually input knowledge.

Each added source expands the chatbot’s ability to provide accurate responses.
